2025 Annual Report

Washington, D.C. (March 5, 2026) – After 19 years of helping guide one of Washington, D.C.’s most significant neighborhood transformations, the Capitol Riverfront Business Improvement District is proud to announce it will now operate as the Navy Yard Business Improvement District (Navy Yard BID).
The organization will move forward under a new name and refreshed brand identity while continuing to deliver the same exceptional service and stewardship the community relies on.
“Our evolution from Capitol Riverfront to Navy Yard reflects more than a name change – it represents who we are,” said Emeka Moneme, President of the Navy Yard BID. “‘Navy Yard’ carries deep historic roots, strong neighborhood recognition, and a clear sense of place. We’re embracing a name that residents, businesses, and visitors already know and love while positioning the BID for a promising future.”
Since its founding in 2007, the BID has played a central role in the area’s evolution from an emerging riverfront district into one of the city’s most dynamic mixed-use neighborhoods. Today, with 23,000 residents, a thriving waterfront, and a nationally recognized sports presence, “Navy Yard” is the name most commonly used for the area – including on the Metrorail station.
By adopting the name already embraced, the Navy Yard BID strengthens its connection to the community it serves, as well as its ability to tell a cohesive narrative, all while positioning the neighborhood for continued growth. The name is shorter, more recognizable, and synonymous with the area’s energy, authenticity, and pride.
To learn more about the organization’s impact over the past year, the Navy Yard BID’s 2025 Annual Report is now available online. The report highlights key milestones, public realm improvements, community partnerships, and investments that shaped the neighborhood throughout the year.
