A “healthy day” in Navy Yard is basically an excuse to move your body, live outside along the river, and still eat and drink really well.

Slow, active morning on the river

Start with a walk or easy jog along the Anacostia River Trail and through Yards Park; you get water views, people-watching, and plenty of benches if you want to pause and stretch or journal.

Grab something light afterward—think coffee and a breakfast sandwich or yogurt from places like maman or Playa Bowls—then find a sunny spot on the lawn or steps to just breathe for a bit.


Midday movement and classes

Check out VIDA Fitness at The Yards for a full workout: they offer run strength, cycling, yoga, and Pilates classes, plus you can use the gym if you’d rather do your own thing.

If class energy is your thing, Navy Yard also has options like Urban Boxing (with “Yoga for Boxers” and conditioning classes) and Barry’s-style run-and-lift sessions nearby, depending on how intense you want to go.


Outdoor fitness and play

In warmer months, look at the Navy Yard BID’s outdoor fitness series—there are free evening yoga, HIIT, barre, and run clubs in Yards Park and Canal Park, which is a nice way to be active without a gym membership.

If you want something playful join a local recreational sports league, companies like Volo and Fray have various teams that meet and play in the Navy Yard neighborhood.

Nourishing food and hydration

For a healthier lunch, lean toward spots that do good grains, veg, and protein—places like local favorite Rasa, where you can build your own bowl with Indian flavors, or reliable standbys like Chopped or Cava.

Keep a big water bottle with you as you wander or drink your protein at Tropical Smoothie Cafe. Just walking throughout the neighborhood adds a bunch of easy, low-stress steps into the day.

Wind-down and recovery

As the day slows down, loop back to the riverfront for a gentle walk or some stretching, or even indulge in a gratifying finale for a day of wellness with a massage at Unwind or some pampering at Modern Nail Bar.

Indulge your tastebuds with dinner at Chloe or Albi, where simple preparations and fresh ingredients steal the show. Take the Metro or stroll home feeling like you actually took care of yourself - inside and out - instead of just squeezing a workout into a busy day.
